Edoardo and Adele Fendi opened their first leather and fur goods shop in Rome in 1925, where they specialized in the design and manufacture of leather handbags, luggage, accessories, and fur garments.
The Fendi’s created the Pergamena design for its luggage collection in 1933, which became a signature look fashioned to appear as if it were made of parchment. This line of products became immensely popular in Rome and elsewhere at that time and for many years afterwards.
The Fendi’s had five daughters who eventually joined the business after WWII. They were later instrumental in hiring fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld who assisted in making Fendi the iconic luxury brand that it is today.
